Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant might come with visual search, text recognition abilities

Previous report from SamMobil had stated that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with AI powered smart virtual assistant dubbed as Bixby. Now, the publication has shared more information about various features of Bixby in a latest report.

It is tipped that Bixby will come equipped with ability to make visual searches. The camera app on Galaxy S8 will integrate a Bixby button, which users can activate to do a visual search on things they point the camera towards. As per the report, Bixby will analyze the image, identify objects and text. Optical Character Recognition will help process any text that is seen by the camera. The Galaxy S8 will also introduce a revamped S Health app that will come with WebMD integration.

The feature looks similar to what we have seen with Google Goggles in the past that recognize objects and show relevant information. Bixby is a product of Viv Labs that was acquired by Samsung in October this year. The smart voice assistant will play a role similar to Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana.
