Samsung Gear 2 Solo standalone smartwatch appears on India import website

Samsung filed for Samsung Gear Solo and Samsung Gear Now trademarks last month. Samsung Gear 2 Solo (SM-R710) has appeared on India import/export website Zauba. Only one unit of the smartwatch has been imported from Korea to Bangalore for R&D purposes. The price of the smartwatch is mentioned as Rs. 12,292. This listing was first spotted by MakTechBlog.

According to earlier rumors from Korean media, the Samsung Gear Solo would have a built-in SIM card or USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) to use it as a standalone mobile device. It is rumored to be initially released in Korea in partnership with the local operator SK Telecom and is expected to be released globally eventually.

Samsung launched the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches in India last month running on Tizen OS. It is not clear if the Gear 2 Solo would also be based on Tizen OS since it doesn’t have a Galaxy branding. Samsung also plans to launch its first Android Wear Smartwatch later this year.
