Apple appoints Sanjay Kaul as India Head

Apple has appointed Sanjay Kaul as country manager for Indian operations, according to a new report from Economic Times.

Kaul is taking over the position from Manish Dhir who had resigned as India Head in January this year. He has been associated with Apple since Novmeber 2011 and has been taking care of the Apple’s iPhone business. Prior to his stint at Apple, Kaul was working with BlackBerry for three years where he headed the company’s channel sales.

Apple recently became the fastest growing smartphone vendor in India in Q1, 2016, according to Canalys report. The company recorded 56% growth in iPhone sales YoY in India in FY Q2 2016. In January the company merged its product division and split the business into two in order to align it with the retail strategy. Earlier this month, Government rejected Apple’s request to sell refurbished iPhones in India. The company is also close to getting approval for opening single brand retail stores in India.
