Apple has introduced Apple HomeView at its “Welcome Home” event today, unveiling a new home device with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display. It comes in tabletop and wall-mounted versions and integrates with Apple’s Siri AI and smart home ecosystem.
Apple HomeView
HomeView combines a personal assistant and connected home controls in a shared household device, with individual profiles for family members and access to shared content for guests.
Design and Display
The tabletop model features an aluminum design, a domed speaker base and a stainless steel hinge for adjusting the viewing angle. The wall-mounted version can be installed in areas such as entryways and hallways. Both models include:
- True Tone: Adjusts the display to changing ambient light.
- Adaptive brightness: Ranges from 500 nits to 0.3 nits.
- Adaptive interface: Shows simpler information from a distance and more detail up close.
The tabletop version comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray, with a matching cable. The wall-mounted model comes in space gray and silver and supports three purpose-built Schneider Electric mounts, with self-installation or professional installation options.
Personalized Experience and Siri AI
HomeView supports up to six people, each with a personalized Home Screen for apps and widgets. Shared photos and music remain available to household members and guests.
Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence and Apple silicon, supports natural conversations, general knowledge queries, music discovery and onscreen awareness. When paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can use personal context from apps such as Calendar and Messages and perform actions across apps, including creating Apple Music playlists.
Users can customize Siri’s expressiveness and speaking pace on a compatible paired device. Conversations can continue in the Siri app, while iCloud syncs conversation history across supported Apple devices. Without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, users can still access Siri’s general knowledge, conversation and music discovery features.
Customizable Faces and Photos
HomeView offers several options for personalizing its display:
- Photos: Shows personal pictures and shared albums with a Portrait-style depth effect, keeping the subject sharp while blurring the foreground and background.
- Flow: Responds to a user’s presence and movement.
- Snoopy: Displays animations based on the time, weather, sports and holidays.
Audio and Entertainment
The tabletop model has two custom full-range drivers in the display, a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators in its speaker base. Apple silicon and real-time sensors adjust loudness and bass at different volume levels, and the system supports Spatial Audio. The wall-mounted version uses two custom drivers with computational audio tuned for on-wall installation.
Supported services include Apple Music with animated album artwork and lyrics, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third-party audio and video apps. HomeView also supports multiroom audio with other HomeView devices, HomePod, HomePod mini and AirPlay-compatible speakers. Handoff lets users transfer music from a compatible iPhone to HomeView by bringing the phone close to the display.
Communication and Everyday Assistance
HomeView supports FaceTime with Center Stage to keep participants framed as they move. Users can read and reply to Messages by voice or through the onscreen keyboard, while Intercom sends voice messages to individual rooms or throughout the house. Messages can reach HomeView and HomePod devices, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Siri can also turn web recipes into step-by-step instructions, manage kitchen timers and help track ingredients. HomeView displays Live Activities, including songs, timers and incoming Intercom messages. Find My helps users locate people who share their location, misplaced iPhones, AirPods charging cases and personal items fitted with an AirTag.
Smart Home Controls and Monitoring
Users can control compatible cameras, thermostats, lights, doors and blinds through touch or Siri. The Home Modular face provides quick access to favourite accessories, while Home Camera displays up to nine live feeds.
With a supported iCloud+ subscription and compatible cameras, HomeView can provide:
- Recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, packages and vehicles.
- Video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video footage.
- Smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sound detection, with alerts sent to an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
The device works with compatible Apple Home and Matter accessories. Apple’s Home Collection also includes smart home cameras, thermostats and locks developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
Privacy and Security
HomeView and its A18 chip use Secure Exclaves, protected runtimes that process camera and microphone data separately from the rest of the system. Apple says data processed within these environments is inaccessible to HomeView software, apps, users and Apple.
Messages and Calendar content appears only when HomeView recognizes an enrolled user by face and the paired iPhone or iPad is present and has been recently unlocked. Siri requests are processed on-device or through Private Cloud Compute. Apple says data processed through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or accessible to Apple or anyone else.
Environmental Initiatives
Apple says HomeView meets its energy-efficiency and safe-chemistry standards and uses recycled materials:
- Aluminum: 100% recycled in the tabletop base and wall-mounted enclosure.
- Circuit boards: 100% recycled gold plating and tin solder in Apple-designed printed circuit boards.
- Magnets: 100% recycled rare earth elements.
- Packaging: 100% fiber-based paper packaging designed to be recyclable.
These measures support Apple’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030.
