Adobe has introduced new interactive editing experiences for its plugin in ChatGPT alongside OpenAI’s DevDay 2026 announcements. The update adds interactive editors to the existing plugin experience, allowing users to work between ChatGPT and Adobe editing tools while keeping their work in context.
Interactive editing for images and designs
The new interactive editors for images and designs are powered by Photoshop and Adobe Express. Users can select an object or brush over a specific area of an image, ask ChatGPT to use the Adobe plugin to make a change, and then fine-tune the result using controls in the interactive editor.
The image editor dynamically surfaces controls based on the type of edit. For example, when a user asks ChatGPT to change the color of an object, the editor can provide color controls scoped to that selection. Other available adjustments include:
- Hue
- Saturation
- Contrast
- Additional effects and adjustments through dynamic controls
Adobe gives the example of a lifestyle photo of a latte on a coffee table with a stray napkin in the shot. A user can open the image in the side panel, select the napkin with the brush tool, and ask ChatGPT to “remove the napkin from the table.” After removing the napkin, the user can select the cup again and ask ChatGPT to use the Adobe plugin to adjust its brightness and contrast. The editor then surfaces sliders for those adjustments.
The image and design editors also keep the editing context connected to the conversation. Requests made in ChatGPT use the Adobe plugin to shape the editing experience, while adjustments made in the interactive editor flow back into the conversation as context. As a result, users can move between describing an edit and making hands-on changes without re-explaining the work or uploading the content again.
Interactive PDF editing
The Adobe plugin also adds hands-on PDF editing through Acrobat tools. Users can open a PDF in a side panel, revise text, and highlight passages directly in the document. They can therefore make changes or annotations while viewing the document instead of moving to a separate workspace.
Selected content in a PDF can also provide context for the ChatGPT conversation. For example, while reviewing a freelance contract, a user can highlight a paragraph about payment terms and ask ChatGPT to use the Adobe plugin to highlight other sections related to payments or invoicing.
Acrobat’s highlight tool then marks those related passages in the document. Users can review the highlighted terms together and check whether they are consistent.
Adobe plugin across AI chatbot platforms
Adobe said it recently unified its creative and productivity tools into a single plugin experience across ChatGPT, Claude, and Slack. The plugin supports creative and document workflows across these AI chatbot platforms.
The latest update brings the interactive image and design editors, along with the Acrobat-based PDF editing experience, to ChatGPT.
Availability
The new interactive editing experiences for the Adobe plugin in ChatGPT will start rolling out globally today. They will be available on ChatGPT web and the ChatGPT app.
The image and design editing experiences are powered by Photoshop and Adobe Express, while the PDF editing experience uses Acrobat tools within the Adobe plugin.
Speaking on the update, Vibhor Chhabra, Product Lead for ChatGPT Ecosystem, OpenAI, said:
We want ChatGPT to help people go from an idea to work they’re ready to use or share, with control over the details along the way. Adobe’s plugin brings its creative expertise and precision into that experience, letting people move naturally between describing what they want and editing images, designs and PDFs themselves — all in ChatGPT.
