T-Mobile and Jio have announced the world’s first 5G Standalone (SA) roaming connection, enabled through interoperability with Syniverse. The connection allows T-Mobile customers to experience 5G SA roaming while traveling internationally, marking the first such roaming connection anywhere in the world.
5G SA roaming
The companies said 5G SA roaming provides faster speeds, lower latency and more reliable connections for international travelers. These capabilities can support applications that require consistent, high-performance global connectivity, including:
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Real-time communications
- Immersive technologies
The roaming connection was enabled through Syniverse’s connectivity platform. The platform provides secure interconnection between networks and helps accelerate the global adoption of next-generation roaming.
T-Mobile and Jio collaboration
With the 5G SA roaming connection, T-Mobile and Jio are extending connectivity across borders. The companies said the collaboration also builds a foundation for new services and experiences powered by global networks.
