Google has introduced Googlebook, a new category of laptops built on the Android technology stack and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Googlebook is designed for Gemini Intelligence and works with Android phones out of the box.
Googlebook
John Solomon, Vice President, General Manager, Laptops, Tablets & Android Enterprise at Google, said the company developed Googlebook with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to combine its software with laptop hardware from these manufacturers.
The initial Googlebook laptops are available in different configurations, with hardware built using aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. Key specifications include:
All five models have 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, and backlit keyboards. Security features include Google Titan security hardware and a fingerprint reader, while the HP and Lenovo models also support face unlock.
Googlebook also features the Glowbar on the exterior. It lights up during startup, indicates the battery charge level, and displays animations when the user talks to Gemini.
Android phone integration
Googlebook uses a shared Android foundation to connect with Android phones. During setup, signing in transfers the phone’s settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages to the laptop, with the transferred data protected by end-to-end encryption. Users can also continue tasks between the phone and laptop and access phone content from the desktop.
- Continue On: Lets users continue supported tasks from their Android phone on Googlebook. For example, a BandLab project started on a phone can be continued from the laptop taskbar.
- Files: The Googlebook Files app lets users view, search, and open files and photos from their phone.
- Cast My Apps: Lets users stream and interact with phone apps in a desktop window, such as a delivery app or Messages for retrieving a one-time code.
Gemini features
Alexander Kuscher, Senior Director of Laptops & Tablets at Google, said Googlebook brings Gemini directly to the device through an intelligence system integrated into the laptop environment. The system includes several Gemini capabilities.
Magic Pointer brings Gemini to the content on screen when the user wiggles the cursor. It can be used for tasks such as organizing a calendar, translating text, scheduling activities, analyzing emails, and combining images.
Examples include:
- Highlighting a marathon training plan and asking Gemini to map out the runs and schedule them in Google Calendar
- Hovering over a suspicious email and asking Gemini to analyze its text and images to determine whether it is spam or legitimate
- Selecting multiple images and asking Gemini to visualize them together
Other Gemini-related features include:
- Magic Pointer: Activates when the user wiggles the cursor and remains off otherwise. Users can also switch it off.
- Rambler: Located next to the Quick Insert key, Rambler is a voice dictation feature that understands the context and nuance of spoken words. It can turn notes, action items, and a stream of consciousness into organized writing while handling multiple languages. It can also clean up stutters, mistakes, and filler words, organize action items into structured bullet points, and create headers, checklists, and formatted takeaways. Rambler can switch between languages within a sentence and add relevant emoji.
- Create My Widget: Lets users create desktop widgets by describing what they need in plain language without coding. The widgets can provide relevant updates throughout the day, such as sports scores or a visual countdown to a family trip.
Chrome, apps and developer tools
Googlebook combines the desktop-class Chrome browser and its extensions with millions of Android apps available through the Play Store. Many of these apps are optimized for large screens as well as mouse and keyboard input.
Supported apps and services include:
- Creative tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and CapCut
- Streaming: Netflix and HBO Max, including offline viewing
- Gaming: Thousands of Android games and AAA titles through GeForce NOW, with a complimentary one-year offering included with every purchase
For developers, Antigravity, Google’s AI agent development platform, comes with every Googlebook and allows users to build, test, and deploy apps directly on the device. The developer environment also includes:
- A full terminal environment
- Support for Claude Code and Antigravity CLI
- Tools for agentic coding
Security
Googlebook uses the same security architecture as ChromeOS, with a Google Titan hardware root of trust, a defense-in-depth architecture, and on-device malware detection. In addition, the platform includes a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, which Google describes as a first for the laptop category.
The hypervisor powers an isolated Linux environment with full terminal access. Users can use the environment to:
- Run Linux developer tools
- Pull code repositories
- Execute autonomous agents
Gemini and Chrome
Googlebook includes Gemini capabilities available through Chrome and Android, including task automations, Gemini Live, and proactive suggestions based on what is displayed on the screen. These suggestions can show a next step based on the content currently visible on the laptop.
Gemini Spark can continue processing complex requests and completing tasks in the background after the laptop is closed.

Every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools. The package also includes three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and more.
Googlebook OS will receive regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years. Pre-orders are open through the Google Store, Best Buy, and other select retailers, with devices arriving on October 4 in the U.S. and October 5 in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.
