Getty Images partners with OpenAI to bring licensed visual content to ChatGPT

Getty Images has announced a display partnership with OpenAI under which its licensed content library will be integrated into ChatGPT’s search and discovery experiences.

The move aims to improve how users discover and interact with visual content within AI-powered search environments.

The agreement will make Getty Images’ licensed content available across ChatGPT’s search and discovery features, enhancing the quality of visual responses generated by the system.

Notably, last year Getty Images and Perplexity announced a global multi-year licensing agreement covering the display of images from Getty Images across Perplexity’s AI-powered search and discovery tools.

Getty Images and OpenAI did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, whether Getty Images’ content will be used to train future OpenAI models, or when the partnership will roll out beyond the announced display experience.

Speaking on the partnership, Craig Peters, Chief Executive Officer at Getty Images, said:

High-quality, licensed visual content makes AI-powered search and discovery more useful and trustworthy. This partnership with OpenAI reflects a shared recognition of that, and together we will deliver richer visual experiences to ChatGPT users.
