New insights into Instagram “Your Algorithm”
Meta is expanding its “Your Algorithm” feature, which lets users adjust recommendations by selecting topics they want to see more or less of on Reels and Explore.
With the update, parents can:
- View general topic categories their teens engage with on Instagram
- Understand how those interests influence recommendations
- Access broader “Your Algorithm” categories across Reels and Explore
Parents can also tap each interest to view additional context about their teen’s activity.
Notifications for new teen interests
Meta is introducing notifications that alert parents when teens add new interests to their algorithm.
Examples include:
- Basketball
- Photography
- Musicals
These alerts help explain changes in content recommendations over time.
Teen Account protections remain in place
The updates build on existing Teen Account safeguards, including:
- Default privacy settings for teens
- Limits on who can contact teen accounts
- Content protections for users under 13
- Enforcement of Community Standards to restrict harmful content
Meta says the number of US teens enrolled in supervision on Instagram has more than doubled compared to last year.
