Apple is testing a practical Home Screen customization update for its next software release. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 could introduce “undo” and “redo” buttons for Home Screen edits.
Home Screen undo/redo feature
Gurman notes that long-pressing the Home Screen currently opens a menu with options like “Add Widget,” “Customize,” “Edit Wallpaper,” and “Edit Pages.” Apple is now testing the addition of “undo” and “redo” controls within the same menu to make reversing or reapplying layout changes easier.
This is particularly useful since moving a widget can shift other elements on the screen. The undo option would instantly restore the previous layout, while redo allows users to switch back and compare changes without rearranging everything again.
Other expected iOS 27 changes
Alongside Home Screen improvements, iOS 27 is expected to bring:
- Siri overhaul with Apple Intelligence upgrades, potentially including a dedicated Siri app
- Liquid Glass UI adjustment slider
- Performance, battery, and stability improvements
The update is also being compared to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, indicating a focus on refinements and bug fixes rather than major visual changes.
Timeline
Apple is expected to begin beta testing for iOS 27 in June, with the official rollout likely in September.
