Samsung Electronics has launched Digital Home Key, a new feature within Samsung Wallet that enables Galaxy users to unlock compatible smart door locks using their smartphones. Starting in March 2026, the feature extends Samsung Wallet’s digital key support from vehicles to homes.
Samsung Wallet as a Unified Digital Key Platform
Samsung Wallet provides a secure hub for payment cards, IDs, passes, and digital keys. With Digital Home Key, it now allows access to both vehicles and homes, integrated across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem.
Setup and Access Options
After configuring a compatible smart door lock through Samsung SmartThings using Matter, users can add a Digital Home Key during the lock onboarding process. Depending on device and lock capabilities, doors can be unlocked by:
- Tapping the smartphone via NFC
- Using hands-free access through UWB proximity detection
- Remotely via the Samsung Wallet app
Security and Standards
Digital Home Key uses the Aliro standard, a communication protocol from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), to enable secure and interoperable digital keys. Samsung is working with smart lock brands including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings to support the feature.
Keys are stored in Samsung Wallet and protected by Samsung Knox, aligned with EAL6+ certification standards. Users can manage or remove access remotely using Samsung Find, and biometric or PIN authentication within Samsung Wallet ensures that only authorized users can operate the keys.
Availability
Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key began rolling out in select regions in March 2026, with further expansion coordinated with compatible smart lock launches.
