WhatsApp has reintroduced its ‘About’ feature, one of the app’s first functions. The feature is updated to be more visible, timely, and interactive, allowing users to share their status using emojis and short phrases with adjustable timers.
Key Features of WhatsApp About
- Top-of-chat visibility & replies: About now appears at the top of 1-1 chats and on profiles. Users can tap on someone’s About to reply directly, providing context-aware communication without sending a full message.
- Customizable expiry timers: About expires automatically after one day by default. Users can set it to disappear faster or remain visible longer through Settings → Set About.
- Emoji and short phrase expression: Users can communicate availability or activity with an emoji and a brief phrase, quickly indicating whether they are free, busy, or want to talk.
- Privacy settings: Users can control who sees their About, choosing between only their contacts or a wider audience according to privacy preferences.

The updated About feature is rolling out to all mobile users starting this week.
