ASUS ROG has introduced two new handheld gaming PCs in India — the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X — following their global launch in June 2025. Both devices combine Xbox, Battle.net, and PC gaming into a single portable platform running a custom Windows 11 interface.
ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X
The handhelds boot directly into a full-screen Xbox interface for easy controller navigation. They feature Game Bar and Armoury Crate, allowing fast access to games, system settings, and performance controls.
Design and Software
Users can access an aggregated library that combines titles from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, Steam, and Epic Games. With Xbox Play Anywhere, over 1,000 games can be played across Xbox consoles, PCs, and handhelds while keeping progress and achievements synchronized.
Additional software features include:
- Remote Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming for console or cloud streaming
- Gaming Copilot, an assistant for game launching, skill guidance, and social interactions
- Roblox optimized for native handheld play
- Enhanced accessibility features adapted from Xbox and Windows
- A planned developer program for Ally-optimized game tags, similar to Steam Deck compatibility
The Windows system is optimized for portable gaming and reduces background processes to maximize performance, the company said.
Hardware and Performance
The ROG Xbox Ally targets general gamers, while the Ally X delivers higher performance and longer battery life. Both devices feature a 7-inch Full HD 120Hz LCD display with FreeSync Premium, 500 nits brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus with anti-reflective coating.
The Ally X comes with an 80Wh battery, compared to 60Wh on the standard Ally. Connectivity options include USB-C ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, a UHS-II microSD slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The handhelds feature ergonomic Xbox-style grips, ABXY buttons, analog sticks, D-pad, back buttons, HD haptics, and a 6-axis motion sensor. The Ally X uses impulse triggers, while the standard Ally features Hall Effect analog triggers.
