Apple’s first touch screen OLED MacBook Pro expected in 2026

Apple is preparing to launch its first OLED MacBook Pro, expected to enter mass production in 2026, with a touch screen display, according to well-known supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Touch Screen with On-Cell Technology

Kuo says the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro will adopt on-cell touch technology, which integrates touch sensors directly into the display’s top layer rather than relying on a separate touch layer. This design reduces panel thickness while improving responsiveness.

He notes that Apple’s decision “appears to reflect long-term observations of iPad user behavior,” suggesting that touch controls can boost productivity and enhance the user experience in specific scenarios.

As per earlier reports, Samsung is expected to supply the OLED displays for the upcoming MacBook Pro.

Affordable MacBook Model Won’t Get Touch Support

Kuo also mentions a more affordable MacBook, powered by an iPhone processor, scheduled to enter production in Q4 2025. It will not support a touch panel. However, Apple is discussing whether a second-generation version in 2027 could introduce touch support.

Launch Timeline

Earlier reports suggested that MacBook Pro models with M5 chips could launch in late 2025. But in July, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple was considering a delay until early 2026—a timeline that now aligns with Kuo’s OLED and touch screen predictions.
