DJI has announced the DJI Mini 5 Pro, a new mini-camera drone designed for both enthusiasts and professionals. The drone features a 1-inch sensor, an Intelligent Flight Battery offering up to 36 minutes of flight time, and an upgraded ActiveTrack 360° system.
Imaging and Video Capabilities
The Mini 5 Pro is equipped with a 50MP 1-inch sensor intended for detailed image capture, particularly in low-light environments. It also includes a new 48mm Med-Tele mode with enhanced digital zoom. DJI’s portrait optimization technology has been integrated to improve the brightness, contrast, and skin tones in portrait shots.
For video, the drone supports 4K/60fps HDR video, offering up to 14 stops of dynamic range. It also features 4K/120fps slow-motion recording for creative flexibility during post-production. The Mini 5 Pro can record 10-bit video using H.265 encoding and has a maximum ISO of 12800. In D-Log M and HLG color modes, the maximum ISO is 3200, which is designed to improve detail in night scenes.
Flight and Safety Features
The Mini 5 Pro features a forward-facing LiDAR and multiple vision sensors that enable omnidirectional obstacle sensing. This system is designed to detect and avoid obstacles during flight, including when returning to the home point at night. The drone can also memorize flight routes, allowing for a safe return even when taking off from locations without a satellite signal.
The drone’s vision system includes fisheye lenses, binocular lenses, and a 3D infrared sensor. This comprehensive setup is intended to provide a safer flight experience. Additionally, the Nighttime RTH (Return-to-Home) feature uses the forward-facing LiDAR to detect obstacles like buildings in low-light conditions and adjusts its flight path accordingly. The drone’s dual-band GNSS (L1 + L5) system connects to more satellites for improved signal stability and positioning.
Creative Features and Transfer
The Mini 5 Pro supports a 225° roll rotation and true vertical shooting, which is designed to capture shots ready for social media platforms without the need for cropping. The upgraded ActiveTrack 360° offers customizable tracking modes for various scenarios.
The drone includes several intelligent features to assist users in capturing professional-level content, such as MasterShots, which provides pre-set camera movement templates, and QuickShots, which includes various modes for creating short films. The Off-State QuickTransfer feature allows for file transfer at up to 100 MB/s via Wi-Fi 6 without the need to power on the drone or remote controller.
