Canon has launched the EOS C50, a compact full-frame RF-mount hybrid Cinema EOS camera designed for professional filmmakers and mobile production teams. It is the smallest model in the Cinema EOS series, supporting 7K video capture and 32MP stills in a lightweight modular body.
Canon EOS C50
The EOS C50 has a compact, low-profile body with several accessory mounting points. It can be used horizontally or vertically, with menus and display adjusting automatically. Its detachable handle includes two 3-pin XLR inputs, REC button, zoom rocker, and control dials.
At its core, the EOS C50 uses a 7K full-frame CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC DV 7 processor. It records 7K 60P RAW, 4K 120P, 2K 180P, and captures 32MP stills. Dual Base ISO (800/6400) with 15+ stops of dynamic range ensures flexibility in varied lighting conditions.
This is the first Cinema EOS model to support open gate recording, utilizing the full 3:2 sensor area. The mode allows greater post-production flexibility for reframing, vertical/horizontal edits, and anamorphic lens use for wide cinematic visuals.
The camera switches its interface by mode, showing Cinema EOS menus for video and EOS R menus for stills. Simultaneous Crop Recording allows both full-frame and cropped vertical or square formats to be captured at the same time, suitable for social media use.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II provides accurate subject tracking with eye detection for people, cats, dogs, and birds. Autofocus speed and response can be fine-tuned. The C50 supports native RF lenses and works with EF or PL lenses via adapters, including the Canon PL-RF Mount Adapter.
Connectivity
The EOS C50 includes dual card slots (CFexpress + SD) for flexible or proxy recording. I/O options include two XLR inputs, MIC terminal, Timecode terminal, HDMI Type-A, USB-C, and a Multi-function shoe.
For remote use, the camera supports UVC/UAC livestreaming up to 60P/50P, Canon XC Protocol for remote operation, and file transfer via the Content Transfer Professional (CTP) app. It also integrates with Adobe Frame.io, enabling direct proxy upload to the cloud.
