The Apple Watch SE 3 is made of recycled aluminum in two sizes—40 mm and 44mm. The cover glass is protected by Apple’s own Ion-X (ion-exchanged strengthened) glass, which the company claims to be the toughest glass available in a smartwatch.
The watch includes a 2nd-gen optical heart sensor for improved accuracy alongside a temperature sensor, compass, and more. New health additions to the Watch SE 3 include sleep score, wrist temperature sensing, retrospective ovulation estimates, and sleep apnea notifications.
There’s also a new addition to users’ workout routines called “Workout Buddy,” powered by Apple Intelligence, which provides personalized spoken motivation using metrics like heart rate, pace, distance, Activity rings, and milestones; it requires an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone nearby and Bluetooth headphones.
The entry-level smartwatch also includes safety features that were previously exclusive to higher models, like Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS, and can last up to 18 hours in normal use.
