Google India signs MoU with Maharashtra government for AI solutions

Google India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to catalyze scaled AI solutions for agriculture, healthcare, and sustainability in the region.

The event happened at the Google office in Pune today in the presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Sanjay Gupta, Country Head & Vice President, Google India, and Dr. Nitin Kareer, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra.

The move is expected to accelerate the AI opportunity in Maharashtra and drive innovative and scalable solutions in key sectors including agriculture, healthcare, sustainability, education, and startups. The government also plans to establish an AI Center of Excellence at IIIT Nagpur.

Google India x Government of Maharashtra MoU for AI Solutions

Under the MoU, Google will collaborate with the Government of Maharashtra in the following areas:

  • AI Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Google will collaborate with the Maharashtra government to boost the local AI ecosystem by offering startup mentorship, networking, demo days, and Cloud credits for eligible VC-funded AI startups.
  • AI Skilling:  Google will aid government-led skills initiatives on YouTube, offer Gen AI training for educators, and equip 500 IT professionals with conversational AI skills through Google Cloud.
  • AI for Healthcare: Google will collaborate with the Government on human-centered AI in healthcare, utilizing advanced Health AI imaging models like TB-Chest X-Ray and Diabetic Retinopathy for improved access to care.
  • AI for Agriculture: Google will contribute its Agricultural Landscape Understanding (ALU) API to Maharashtra, offering detailed insights about farmland for data-driven agricultural initiatives, utilizing remote sensing AI/ML technology.
  • Sustainability:  Both parties will collaborate on AI tools for environmental resilience, encompassing real-time air pollution monitoring under Project Air View, city planning using AI-powered building footprints under the Open Buildings Dataset, and optimizing traffic lights with Project Greenlight. 
  • Google Cloud’s AI and machine learning technologies will be used for pilot solutions in citizen interaction, government scheme access, and farmer assistance in Maharashtra.
