Amazon India launches Amazon Air, its own air cargo service

Amazon India has established its own air cargo service, Amazon Air, becoming the first e-commerce company in India to do so. It was first launched in 2016 in the US.

Amazon Air – a dedicated air cargo network

The Amazon Air uses the full cargo space of a Boeing 737-800 operated by Quikjet Cargo Airlines, a partnership between AFL and ASL Aviation Group. The move demonstrates Amazon India’s dedication to expanding its transportation network, the company stated.

Quikjet’s new aircraft was officially introduced today in Hyderabad by Telangana minister Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao and Amazon’s senior leaders. The minister heads the departments of Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries & Commerce, and Information Technology.

Supporting 1M+ sellers in India: Amazon Air’s launch will help the 1.1 million sellers in India to grow their businesses by providing more efficient transportation and packaging services.

110 aircrafts across 70 destinations worldwide

Amazon Air was first launched in 2016 in the US, and since then it has expanded to include over 110 aircrafts and serves 70 destinations worldwide. Amazon has invested heavily in air logistics and created thousands of jobs worldwide. The service continues to expand globally while also incorporating environmentally-friendly solutions to power its network.

Availability

Amazon’s own aircraft ‘Amazon Air’ will be used to ship customer packages to key Indian cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai.

Commenting at the event of the launch, KT Rama Rao, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries & Commerce, and Information Technology, said,

Telangana offers a conducive environment for the development of multi-modal connectivity and I take great pride in the fact that Hyderabad has emerged as a major hub for e-commerce distribution and supply chain activities.

We have been working towards strengthening the state’s air cargo infrastructure, and we welcome the launch of Amazon Air, which will further assist in making Hyderabad a cargo hub for the country and will create additional employment opportunities in the state.
