Sony’s Project Field will change the way you play card games

Sony has unveiled a new gaming platform dubbed as Project Field which uses smart pads to connect physical card games and mobile games. These smart pads come with integrated IC chips, game applications, and a combination of trading card games and smartphone applications.

The smart pads are equipped with functions such as position detection sensor, IC reading device, LED, Bluetooth. When you put a card on the smart pad it can detect the direction and movement quickly and exchange data with the smartphone game application via Bluetooth. The pads can read the data on the card and add data like game progress. You can slide the cards in different directions and change places with other cards, and this data will be reflected in the digital game via the pad.

Sony claims that it is working on multiple projects for Project Field which is only aimed at Japanese gamers for now. In other news, Sony plans to release up to six PlayStation games in Japan during the 2017-2018 fiscal year for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile platforms
