Microsoft acquires Talko mobile messaging app

Microsoft has scooped up Talko mobile messaging app for on-the-go business communications for an  undisclosed sum. The company will use Talko’s tech to “fuel future innovation” in Skype and Skype for Business.

As a result of the acquisition, Talko employees will join the Skype team, said the company. Talko voice messaging startup was founded by former Microsoft CTO Ray Ozzie a little more than a year ago. Available on Android and iOS, the app brings together talk, texting, and conferencing. Launched in 2014, Talko will be shutting down by March 2016, and the company will be allowing users to export all their past Talko conversations.

I welcome the new team members and am excited about how Talko will fuel more innovation at Microsoft, whether it is enhancing the way family members stay in touch with Skype or building on the new Skype for Business services within Office 365.
