Spotify lets users keep kids music from influencing recommendations and Wrapped

Spotify has introduced a new setting that lets users control whether kids’ and family music is included in their taste profile. The update gives parents and guardians another way to manage how music played for children affects their Spotify experience.

Kids and family music in your taste profile

The new toggle lets users exclude kids and family music from their taste profile. This includes songs from children’s favorite animated movies, theme songs from family TV shows, nursery rhymes, and other kids and family music.

When users turn off the setting, they can still search for, listen to, and build playlists with kids and family music. However, those streams will no longer affect Spotify’s recommendations or listening insights.

The setting affects experiences including:

  • Discover Weekly
  • Daily Mix
  • Wrapped

The change also applies retroactively. Kids and family music that users have already listened to will no longer count toward their Wrapped top song or artist.

The update builds on Spotify’s existing tools that allow users to exclude specific tracks or playlists from their taste profile. It also works alongside managed accounts for young listeners.

Managed accounts for young listeners

Managed accounts give listeners aged 13 and under, or the region-equivalent age, a space to discover music on their own. Parents and guardians can adjust parental controls as children grow.

In many countries, managed accounts are available to parents and guardians on any Spotify plan. They give children their own music library and year-end Wrapped experience.

How to turn off kids and family music

The new toggle is a one-tap feature rolling out globally on mobile to Free and Premium users. Spotify includes kids and family music in the taste profile by default, but users can turn off the setting at any time.

To disable it on a mobile device:

  1. Tap your profile picture in the top-left corner and open Settings and privacy.
  2. Select Content and display.
  3. Turn off the toggle next to Include kids and family music in taste profile.

Spotify says it may take up to 48 hours for the change to be reflected in personalized recommendations.
