Adobe has announced new AI-powered tools and workflow updates for Premiere and After Effects. The updates introduce generative video, sound effects, soundscapes and music in Premiere, along with new AI audio tools, an AI Assistant in After Effects, Color Mode updates and other workflow improvements.
Premiere gets Generative Media Tool
Premiere’s new Generative Media Tool lets editors create video and sound effects directly in the timeline. Users can select where the result should appear, describe what they need, and generate context-aware, fully editable clips that they can refine within the project.
The tool supports Adobe Firefly and partner models including Google Veo, Kling, Runway and Luma. Users can choose the model they want for each generation.
The tool includes four generation options:
- Generate Video: Fills gaps in the timeline and uses reference frames from the project to create footage that matches the surrounding visual context.
- Generate Sound Effects: Creates sound effects directly in the timeline using Adobe’s commercially safe audio model. Users can use their voice to guide the rhythm, timing and intensity.
- Generate Soundscape: Analyzes up to 15 seconds of video and creates context-aware audio with layers of ambience and sound effects timed to the edit. Users can further refine the generated audio.
- Generate Music: Creates original music with multiple variations, along with controls for tempo and looping. The generated music is commercially safe and includes synchronization rights across any type of media.
Adobe’s 2026 Creators’ Toolkit Report found that nearly nine in 10 creators accelerate the growth of their business or audience when using creative AI tools such as Adobe’s. It also found that an overwhelming majority consider it essential to retain final creative decision-making.
Premiere adds AI audio tools
Premiere adds AI-powered tools for cleaning up, separating and adjusting audio. The update provides separate controls for dialogue, music, ambience and sound effects within individual clips.
The main additions include:
- Enhance Audio: Builds on Enhance Speech with next-generation noise reduction. It lets users control dialogue, music, ambience and sound effects independently, remove individual elements, adjust layers or mute dialogue.
- Separate Crosstalk: Splits two overlapping speakers into independent tracks for separate mixing and editing without requiring a re-recording.
- Dynamic Auto Ducking: Automatically balances dialogue, music and other audio elements without manual keyframes.
- New speed algorithm: Changes audio duration across a wider range while preserving the original pitch and timbre.
After Effects gets AI Assistant
The AI Assistant in After Effects works across an entire project and lets users perform tasks through plain-language instructions. It can handle projects with thousands of layers, resolve technical issues and create motion effects such as expressions without requiring users to write code.
The assistant can also inspect compositions and footage before carrying out tasks based on the user’s instructions. Users can choose which changes to apply and refine the resulting work.
Adobe is extending the AI Assistant to motion design workflows in After Effects. In Premiere, the assistant can handle tasks such as organizing assets, batch renaming clips and adding markers.
Premiere gets Color Mode updates
Premiere’s Color Mode adds new Style Modules and an Auto Color tool. The new Style Modules include:
- Vignette
- Midtones
Auto Color corrects the color temperature and exposure of a clip, custom group or entire sequence with a single click.
Other Premiere updates
Adobe has redesigned the Properties and Effects panels to improve navigation. The company has also expanded Premiere’s cloud-based workflow with Frame.io Mounted Storage.
Frame.io Mounted Storage lets users:
- Stream full-resolution media from the cloud directly to the Premiere timeline.
- Edit cloud-stored media without manually downloading files.
- Reduce the need for local storage.
2026 Emmy recognition for Premiere
The Television Academy will recognize Premiere with an Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement at the 2026 Emmys. The award honors 35 years of Premiere.
