Google Search AI Mode gets connected apps support for third-party services

Google has started rolling out connected apps support in Search AI Mode, allowing users to securely link supported services and interact with them directly within Google Search. The feature extends app connectivity already available in the Gemini app to AI Mode in Search.

Users can use AI Mode with connected apps to complete tasks such as creating grocery carts, finding design templates and generating playlists. The initial integrations include Instacart, Canva and YouTube Music.

With Instacart, users can ask AI Mode to create a grocery list and add ingredients directly to their shopping cart before completing checkout through the Instacart app or website.

For design requests, AI Mode can show Canva template options or help create concepts for projects such as flyers. Users can also create playlists through AI Mode and save them to YouTube Music.

How to use Connected Apps in Google Search AI Mode

To use connected apps:

  • Open Google Search on a computer and select AI Mode.
  • Users can also access AI Mode through google.com/ai.
  • Enter a request in the Ask anything bar.
  • If the required app is not connected, AI Mode will show an option to connect it.
  • If the app is already connected to the Google account, users will see an option to continue in AI Mode.

Examples of requests include:

  • “Make me a grocery cart of healthy snacks and drinks for 8 adults.”
  • “Create a playlist featuring the top trending Bollywood songs from the past 10 years.”
  • “I’m launching a weekend pop-up vintage clothing sale. Create a flyer draft in Canva that looks retro, grainy, and uses neutral earth tones.”

After AI Mode completes a request, users may be redirected to the connected app to complete the action. Instacart can be used to complete grocery cart checkout and manage or track orders, YouTube Music can be used to listen to playlists, and Canva can be used to modify or download designs.

Google may automatically use the last app selected for a specific task. Users can switch to another available app by mentioning the preferred service in the Ask anything bar in AI Mode.

Availability

Connected Apps in Google Search AI Mode is rolling out first in the U.S. Availability varies by location, language, and device. Google will highlight additional connected apps as they become available.
