Spotify has announced a new set of updates aimed at improving podcast sharing, playlist management, queue controls, and offline listening across its platform.
The latest changes include podcast Clips with expanded sharing tools, playlist folders on mobile, in-playlist bulk editing, improved queue management, background downloads on iOS, and a reshuffle button for Premium users.
Podcast Clips and new sharing options
Spotify is rolling out a new Clips feature for podcasts that allows listeners to capture, save, revisit, and share specific moments from podcast episodes.
Users can create clips directly from the Now Playing screen by tapping the scissor icon, trimming the selected segment, and then choosing to save or share it.
The updated sharing menu now supports multiple sharing formats, including:
- Full podcast episodes
- Podcast chapters
- Timestamps
- Podcast Clips
Content can also be shared directly through Spotify Messages or other supported platforms.
All saved Clips are stored in the Your Library section and can also be added to podcast playlists for easier access later.
Spotify says podcast chapters, introduced earlier this year, are already being saved and added to playlists more than 2 million times per month. The company also says early testing showed increased podcast saving activity when Clips were enabled.
Playlist folders arrive on mobile
Spotify has expanded playlist folders to mobile devices after previously offering the feature only on desktop. Users can now organize playlists into folders directly from their phones. The feature allows playlists to be grouped by:
- Mood
- Activity
- Genre
Spotify says this makes it easier to manage and access playlists from the Your Library section.
Bulk playlist editing and queue controls
Spotify is also introducing in-playlist bulk actions that allow users to edit and reorganize multiple tracks, audiobooks, or podcast episodes at the same time.
The update is intended to reduce manual steps and save time while managing playlists and listening content.
For Spotify Premium users, the platform has also brought back the ability to select and manage multiple songs within the play queue simultaneously.
Background downloads improve offline listening
Spotify says offline listening on iOS devices is becoming more reliable with the addition of background downloads.
Music and podcast downloads will continue even when the Spotify app is closed or running in the background. Users will also receive notifications showing download progress.
The feature is intended to help users prepare content for offline listening during:
- Flights
- Underground travel
- Areas with limited network connectivity
Spotify adds reshuffle button for Premium users
Spotify has also introduced a reshuffle button for Premium users on mobile devices.
The feature allows users to instantly generate a new shuffle order for playlists with a single tap, without turning shuffle mode off and on again manually.
According to Spotify, the reshuffle option can help listeners:
- Rediscover playlists
- Change the listening pace
- Hear tracks in a different order
