Meta has announced new paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp as part of its push toward premium features and AI-focused services.
The new plans, called Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus, are designed to offer additional tools and customization options across Meta’s apps, alongside the company’s broader shift toward subscription-based services under the “Meta One” branding.
Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, said users may start seeing the company’s subscription offerings come together under the Meta One name in the future. She also said more features will be added over time.
Meta Plus subscriptions
The new Plus subscriptions add customization, engagement, and personalization features across Meta’s apps while keeping the standard experience free for regular users.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus focus mainly on profile and Story features, including:
- Advanced Story insights and rewatch counts
- Additional audience controls for Stories
- Unlimited Story audience lists beyond Close Friends
- Custom app icons
- Custom profile bio fonts
- Animated Story reactions
- Additional profile pins
Meta is also adding features such as:
- Extending Stories beyond 24 hours
- Previewing Stories without appearing as a viewer
- Searching Story viewer lists
- Posting content to profiles and highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds
- Weekly Story spotlighting for additional visibility
WhatsApp Plus focuses on messaging personalization and includes:
- Custom themes
- Custom ringtones
- Additional pinned chats, including support for up to 20 extra pinned conversations
- Premium sticker packs
- Expanded list customization options
Meta says these subscriptions will continue to exist alongside Meta Verified and are not replacing its existing verification service, which focuses on verification, impersonation protection, and support features.
AI-focused plans and creator tools
Alongside the consumer subscriptions, Meta is also preparing AI-focused plans that will offer:
- Higher AI usage limits
- Deeper reasoning for complex tasks
- Expanded image and video generation capabilities across Meta apps
Meta says the higher-tier AI plan will provide more compute capacity for heavy usage. The company also plans to expand some AI-related benefits to AI glasses users in the future.
Meta is also testing creator and business-focused subscription plans with features such as:
- Verified badges
- Enhanced profile linksheets
- Improved analytics and audience insights
- Better discovery on Facebook and Instagram
- Profile promotion tools
- Scheduling features
- Team and moderator account management tools
- Notifications when other users reuse original content
Meta One Advanced subscribers may also get access to clickable links in Instagram posts and Reels.
The move comes as Meta increases investment in AI infrastructure and looks to diversify revenue beyond advertising. The company is positioning subscriptions as paid upgrades for users seeking additional tools and features across its apps and AI services.
