Google Photos gets smoother Crop tool experience on Android

Google is rolling out improvements to the Crop tool in Google Photos for Android to make the editing experience smoother and more stable. The changes are part of the redesigned editor experience that Google introduced in September 2025, where crop tools appear immediately in the editing interface.

The update focuses on fixing cropping issues, improving preview accuracy, and refining animation behavior.

  • Accurate image previews: Google fixed an issue where the image preview would shrink while pulling the crop handles. The preview now remains stable during adjustments.
  • Reliable cropping and rotation: An issue that caused photos to flip or change shape unexpectedly when rotating and cropping at the same time has been fixed. This improves consistency during combined editing actions.
  • Smoother visuals: The Crop tool now includes fluid and responsive animations while dragging, rotating, and adjusting aspect ratios, improving visual stability during edits.
