Google adds new reporting tool for explicit image removal in Search

Google is rolling out a simpler process that allows people to request the removal of non-consensual explicit images from Search. The update builds on existing protections designed to support individuals affected by harmful content.

Remove explicit images from Search

Users can now begin a removal request directly from an image result in Search. By selecting the three-dot menu on an image, choosing “remove result,” and then selecting “It shows a sexual image of me,” they can submit a request through a streamlined flow.

This process provides a direct way to report explicit imagery from search results. It now includes:

  • Simplified removal flow: The reporting process has been redesigned to provide a more direct way to submit requests from search results.
  • Submit multiple images in one request: Users can include several explicit images in a single submission instead of reporting each image individually.

  • Ongoing protection option: The system includes an opt-in safeguard that filters additional explicit results that may appear in related searches after a request is submitted.
  • Access to support resources: After submitting a request, users are shown links to expert organizations that provide emotional and legal support.

  • Centralized request tracking: All removal requests can be tracked in one place through the “Results about you” hub. Users also receive email notifications when the status of a request changes.

Google says the process is intended to reduce the burden faced by people dealing with non-consensual explicit imagery. The company adds that it will continue to gather feedback and work with experts to improve protections.

Availability

The updated removal experience is rolling out over the coming days in most countries. Google plans to expand availability to additional regions.
