Spotify expands Lyrics tools with translations, offline lyrics, and previews

Spotify has introduced three upgrades to its lyrics feature, improving how listeners view, understand, and follow song lyrics. Lyrics are a widely used feature on the platform, with hundreds of millions of views daily. The updates focus on translation, offline availability, and on-screen presentation.

Lyric Translations

Spotify is expanding lyric translations worldwide. Previously available in select markets, translations allow users to view lyrics in a language different from the original. For tracks with translation support, users can tap the translate icon on the lyrics card to see the translated text below the original lyrics. Translations are displayed based on the device’s language and can be switched back to the original lyrics at any time.

Offline Lyrics

Downloaded songs now include lyrics automatically, enabling users to access the words without an internet connection. This applies to any environment, including commutes or flights, where online access may be limited.

Lyric Previews

Lyric previews display lines directly beneath the album artwork or Canvas clip while a song plays. This placement aims to make lyrics more visible and easier to follow. Users can share specific lines to social platforms from the Now Playing view and can turn off lyric previews at any time via the three-dot menu by selecting “Lyrics Off.”

Availability
  • Lyric translations: Available worldwide for Free and Premium users.
  • Offline lyrics: Available globally for Premium users.
