According to OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, health and wellness topics are commonly queried on ChatGPT. Over 230 million people globally ask health and wellness related questions on ChatGPT every week, says OpenAI. As a result, the company has brought a new space called Health into the famous AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
With a dedicated ChatGPT Health space, users can understand their medical records, ask questions related to them, and connect wellness apps like Apple Health to ground conversations in their own health information. ChatGPT Health is designed to support, not replace, medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment; rather, it helps users navigate everyday questions and understand patterns over time, the company said.
When it comes to the reliability of information, OpenAI claims that ChatGPT Health was developed in close collaboration with more than 260 physicians worldwide, who evaluated the model’s outputs across 30 focus areas to ensure the delivery of clear and useful health information.
As of now, OpenAI is piloting this feature with a small group of early users through a waitlist program. Once available, users will be able to ask health-related queries, upload files directly, and connect from tools (+) or “Apps” in Settings. Apps that can be connected to this space include:
- Apple Health for health and fitness data, including movement, sleep, and activity patterns (must be on iOS to sync)
- Function for lab test insights, nutrition ideas, and taking action on your health
- MyFitnessPal for nutrition advice, macros, and recipes.
Privacy Measures for ChatGPT Health
The reason for having a dedicated space for Health in ChatGPT is the privacy mechanism built by the company. Health has separate memories, and its data is secured through purpose-built encryption and isolation to ensure that health-related conversations remain protected and compartmentalized.
While health-related queries can access memories from non-health conversations, the reverse is prohibited to maintain security. OpenAI has assured that conversations in the Health space are not used to train its foundation models.
Availability
If you’re interested in getting access as it becomes available, you can sign up for the waitlist. ChatGPT Health will be available to users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the UK.
