Google has introduced Nano Banana Pro, a new image generation and editing model built on Gemini 3 Pro, designed to leverage advanced reasoning and real-world knowledge. Naina Raisinghani, Product Manager at Google DeepMind, stated that the model improves the visualization of information compared to previous solutions.
Nano Banana Pro: Capabilities and Applications
Nano Banana Pro enables visualization of ideas and creation of designs across multiple use cases, including prototypes, infographics, and converting handwritten notes into diagrams. Key functionalities include:
- Enhanced reasoning and real-world knowledge: Generates context-rich visuals, supporting educational explainers, infographics, and diagrams. It can also integrate real-time information from Google Search, including weather, sports, or recipe snapshots.
- Text rendering in images: Supports accurate and legible text in multiple languages, suitable for mockups, posters, and long-form text. Content can be localized and translated for global use.
- High-fidelity visual creation: Enables blending of up to 14 images while maintaining consistency for up to 5 people. Supports transformation of sketches into photorealistic 3D structures with customizable camera angles, focus, lighting adjustments, and color grading. Outputs are available in 2K and 4K resolutions across multiple aspect ratios.
AI-Generated Image Identification
All images generated with Google AI are embedded with SynthID digital watermarking for verification. Users can upload images in the Gemini app to confirm whether they were created by Google AI. Currently, verification applies to images, with plans to expand to audio and video in the future.
Free-tier and Pro users also see a visible “Gemini sparkle” watermark, which is removed for Ultra subscribers and images created using Google AI Studio.
Availability
- Consumers and students: Accessible globally in the Gemini app under ‘Create images’ → ‘Thinking’ model. Free-tier users have limited quotas; higher quotas are provided for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. Available in Google AI Search in the U.S. for Pro and Ultra subscribers, and for NotebookLM subscribers worldwide.
- Professionals: Image generation is upgraded to Nano Banana Pro in Google Ads, Google Slides, and Google Vids.
- Developers and enterprises: Rollout begins via Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Google Antigravity, and Vertex AI for scalable creation. Coming soon to Gemini Enterprise.
- Creatives: Available in Flow for AI filmmaking to Ultra subscribers, providing precision control over frames and scenes.
