Google expands AI travel planning with Canvas, Flight Deals, and agentic bookings

Google has introduced new AI-powered tools aimed at simplifying travel planning. The updates include AI-assisted itinerary building, global expansion of Flight Deals, and agentic booking capabilities for restaurants, events, and local services. The features are designed to help users organize travel plans, find affordable options, and move from planning to booking efficiently.

Build travel plans with Canvas in AI Mode

Canvas, a workspace within AI Mode, now supports travel planning. Users can create a customized itinerary by describing the type of trip and selecting “Create Canvas.”

The Canvas side panel generates a plan using real-time Search data for flights and hotels, Google Maps information such as photos and reviews, and relevant web content.

  • It suggests hotels based on price and amenities and provides ideas for restaurants and activities organized by travel time from the selected stay.
  • Users can refine the plan with follow-up prompts, explore tradeoffs such as hotel location versus proximity to activities, and access the plan later via AI Mode history.
Global AI-powered Flight Deals

Flight Deals, an AI tool in Google Flights, has expanded from the U.S., Canada, and India to over 200 countries and territories, including the U.K., France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea. The tool supports more than 60 languages. Users describe travel preferences, and Flight Deals identifies the best available bargains for flexible dates and destinations.

Agentic AI for bookings

AI Mode’s agentic capabilities allow users to make restaurant, event, and local service bookings. Users provide preferences, and AI Mode searches multiple platforms to identify real-time availability.

It presents a curated list with direct links to finalize reservations through partners including OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek, Vivid Seats, Booksy, Fresha, and Vagaro.

Future plans include completing flight and hotel bookings directly within AI Mode. Google is collaborating with partners such as Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to support these capabilities.
