Ever gone back to a Spotify audiobook after so long that you’ve forgotten a few parts of the narration and needed to listen to it all over again at 2x speed just to recall the overall premise? If yes, Spotify is introducing a new “Audiobook Recaps” feature that leverages LLMs to generate a summary of the book you’ve listened to so far.
Today, Spotify is rolling out this powerful new feature that offers short audio summaries tailored to your most recent listening point. To listen to a recap of an audiobook, return to the story and tap the Recap button at the top of the audiobook’s page to hear a tailored summary of what’s happened so far.
Do note that this feature is part of Spotify Premium, and your first Recap will be available after you’ve listened to the first 15-20 minutes of a book. The company also assured that it will not be using audiobook content for LLM training purposes or voice generation, in favor of protecting the work of authors and narrators.
Availability
Audiobook Recaps are currently in beta, available on iOS for a limited selection of English-language titles, with plans to expand over time.
Regarding the feature, Spotify said,
We see endless potential to reimagine how people engage with books and believe Recaps will help more listeners finish the books they start, turning casual listeners into consistent audiobook fans and deepening the connection between authors and their audiences. We’ll continue investing in technology that makes Spotify more dynamic for booklovers, authors, and publishers alike.
