On Tuesday, Google announced that its Gemini assistant will soon extend to more devices—such as Wear OS smartwatches, Android Auto, vehicles with Google built-in, Google TV, headsets, glasses, and earbuds—bringing voice-based support across the Android platform.
Gemini on Wear OS Smartwatches
Gemini will soon be available on Wear OS smartwatches, allowing users to interact naturally without needing their phone, as explained by Guemmy Kim, Senior Director of Product and User Experience for Android.
For example, users at the gym can say, “Remember I’m using locker 43 today,” or ask about a restaurant from a past email—directly from the watch. Kim added that Gemini’s integration with apps makes such interactions smooth and efficient.
Gemini in Cars: Android Auto and Google Built-In
Gemini will also enhance Android Auto and cars with Google built-in. Patrick Brady, Vice President of Android for Cars, said Gemini supports hands-free voice input for tasks like finding a charging station near a park or summarizing messages while driving. It can also translate replies into more than 40 languages.
Brady noted that Gemini Live, which starts with the prompt “Hey Google, let’s talk,” can deliver news updates or summarize a book while commuting. He added that Android Auto is supported in over 250 million vehicles, and more than 50 car models now feature Google built-in, including options from Lincoln, Renault, and Honda.
Key features in cars
- Hands-Free Tasks: Users can send messages (e.g., always message a friend in Spanish), search for nearby taco spots, or access app-connected info via Google Maps, YouTube Music, Spotify, and Calendar.
- Gemini Live: Helps users brainstorm ideas or prep for meetings—such as discussing a promotion—while staying focused on the road.
- Additional Features: Google is expanding its in-car app selection with games and videos for parked moments and introducing digital car keys for more brands, including Audi, Volvo, and Polestar.
Gemini on Google TV
Later this year, Gemini will arrive on Google TV. It will help users find suitable content for kids—such as age-appropriate action movies—and answer questions using relevant YouTube videos. Kim said this improves family-friendly interactions on the platform.
Gemini on Headsets and Glasses
Google is working with Samsung to develop Android XR, a new platform for headsets and glasses. Kim said that when Samsung’s first headset launches later this year, Gemini will assist with tasks like vacation planning using immersive videos, maps, and local insights.
Gemini will also extend to compatible earbuds from Sony and Samsung, offering support across a wide range of Android devices.
