In a continual effort to enhance user experience, the Google app on Android is set to introduce a Sports widget, following the earlier introduction of the Finance Watchlist. The Sports widget is accessible in the beta channel with Google app version 14.49.38.29.
The Sports widget will display teams that users follow along with details of their upcoming, live, or past matches. Each game will be presented in cards featuring date/time, score, and league information.
Tapping on a card will open the full Knowledge Graph card in Google Search. The widget offers a customizable one- or two-column UI, with the latter prominently highlighting a featured game at the top. Users can resize the widget to occupy the entire home screen.
Refresh functionality is available in the top-right corner, and the widget provides two views: “Your games” and “Trending games.” Customization options, including team selection, can be managed through the widget settings page, which also offers recommendations based on search activity.
Leveraging Dynamic Color, the Sports widget expands the Search app’s functionality, complementing the existing Finance Watchlist widget. We are expecting the sports widget functionality to soon roll out in the stable version of the Google app.
