Weekly Roundup: OPPO F3, UberEATS, Smartron srt.phone, Microsoft Surface Laptop and more

This week OPPO launched F3 selfie-centric smartphone, Smartron launched srt.phone, Facebook launched Express WiFi in India and more. Let’s take a look at all the launches and announcements that took place this week.

OPPO launched F3 selfie-focused smartphone in the ‘F Series’. It packs 16-megapixel front-facing camera with 1/3.1-inch sensor and f/2.0 aperture along with an 8-megapixel secondary front camera with 120-degree wide-angle lens for capturing better group selfies that is present on the F3 Plus. It also has a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash.

It has a 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass screen, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750T processor, has 4GB of RAM and runs on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) with ColorOS 3.0 on top. It has a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button.

The OPPO F3 comes in Gold and Rose Gold colors and is priced at Rs. 19,990. It is available for pre-order exclusively from Flipkart as well as offline stores from today till May 12, and goes on sale from May 13th.

Smartron launched srt.phone smartphone that packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display with Corning Gorilla 3 protection, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 652 processor and runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). The company promises upgrade to upcoming Android O as well as fastest software updates and security patches. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) and a 5MP front-facing camera.

The Smartron srt.phone comes in Titanium Gray color and is priced at Rs. 12,999 for the 32GB version and the 64GB version costs Rs. 13,999.  It will be available exclusively on Flipkart. You get extra Rs. 1500 discount on exchange and a free Sachin Tendulkar Signature back cover for a limited period.

Samsung launched Q9, Q8 and Q7 series of its flagship premium line-up of QLED TVs in India at an event in Delhi. These come in 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch and 88-inch sizes with nearly bezel-less displays with 4K (3,840 × 2,160 pixels) UHD resolution, promise optimal brightness levels and stunning visual experience.

The metal alloy quantum dots in QLED TV addresses all major aspects of picture quality, including color volume, brightness, bold contrast and viewing angle. QLED TV offers accurate color and achieves a 100% color volume. Samsung says that the price of QLED TV goes up to 24,99,900 in India

Facebook commercially launched Express Wi-Fi in India. The social network was testing this service in the country since August last year. Facebook has launched 700 hotspots across the four Indian states of Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Meghalaya. In addition to India, Express WiFi is currently live in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Indonesia. Facebook has also teamed up with  Bharti Airtel to launch an additional 20,000 hotspot. These hotspots will begin to be deployed over the next few months.

In addition to our newly announced partnership with Airtel, Express Wi-Fi has been deployed in partnership with ISPs AirJaldi in Uttarakhand, LMES in Rajasthan, Tikona in Gujarat, and soon with Shaildhar in Meghalaya.

Uber launched UberEATS food delivery service in India, starting from Mumbai. In Mumbai the company has partnered with over 200 restaurants like The Bombay Canteen, Nom Nom, The Good Wife, Fresh Menu, Le 15, Coffee by Di Bella and more to offer a wide selection of food options. Food prices are set by restaurant partners according to their own menu and there is a delivery fee of Rs. 15, inclusive taxes.

Uber said that UberEATS will expand to six cities before the end of the year, but it did not confirm the list of cities. Earlier this year the company released restaurant partner and delivery partner forms so these cities could be Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

iBall launched a new version of the Slide Brace-X1 4G tablet running Android based operating system ‘Remix OS’ in partnership with Jide Technology. The company said that all its future iBall Slide Tablet PCs will run Remix OS offering a fully functional desktop experience. It sports 10.1-inch (1280 x 800 Pixels) capacitive multi-touch IPS display and is powered by a 1.3 GHz Octa-Core ARM Cortex A53 processor with Mali-T720 GPU. Running Remix OS based on Android, it comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, expandable memory up to 64GB with micro SD. There is a 8MP rear and 5MP front camera.

The iBall Slide Brace-X1 4G with Remix OS is priced at Rs. 17,499 (MRP), same as the original tablet and will soon be available at select stores across India.

 

ZOPO launched Color M5, its latest budget smartphone with support for 4G VoLTE. It has a 5-inch FWVGA screen, is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), has a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
ZOPO Color M5 comes in Peach, Matte White, Caribbean Blue, Indigo and Charcoal Black colors, has textured back that prevents fingerprints and scratches. Plus, and the slightly curved edges are designed to deliver a satisfying grip. It is priced at Rs. 5,999.

Microsoft has officially introduced Surface Laptop running Windows 10 S targeted at college students. It has a 13.5-inch PixelSense edge-to-edge display with immersive touchscreen and ultra-thin bezel. It also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and up to 14.5 hours of battery life. The Surface laptop comes with 7th Generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with Intel HD 620 (i5) / Intel® Iris Plus Graphics 640 (i7). It has 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB RAM, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB SSD and runs Windows 10 S.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop comes in Platinum, Graphite Gold, Cobalt Blue and Burgundy colors, but all the four color options are only available in i5-7200U 8GB/256GB model, while other versions comes in Platinum. It starts at $999 (Rs. 64090 approx.) for the base Core i5 model with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, is available for pre-order and will be available from June 15th.

Microsoft introduced Windows 10 S operating system, a version of Windows 10 Pro that for education. Microsoft says that the OS has been streamlined for security and performance and the applications are delivered only via the Windows Store ensuring Microsoft-verified security and integrity. Microsoft Edge is the default browser, which you can’t change.

Microsoft has partnered with Acer, ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Samsung, and Toshiba for a range of new Windows 10 S PCs for Education that includes HP Probook x360 11 G1 EE, Dell Latitude 11 3000 Series 3189 2-in-1 and others. These Windows 10 S touch PCs will be available starting at $189 in the coming months.

Logitech introduced a new Slim Folio keyboard case for the latest 9.7-inch iPad (5th generation) that uses two replaceable coin batteries, instead of the usual rechargeable lithium-ion cells found in other keyboard. So this promises battery life of up to 4 years, if you type for 2 hours per day.
