Apple Watch 2 tipped to sport bigger battery, GPS and LTE support, two versions expected

Apple is expected to make its next generation Watch more powerful with new features. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a research note that talks about possible upgrades for the Apple Watch 2.

According to Kuo, Apple Watch 2 will likely launch in the second half of 2016 with a faster TSMC-built processor, GPS, barometer, superior waterproofing, and a higher capacity battery. He further said Apple will launch two Apple Watch models this year, one of which will come with minor updates, while the other one will pack in some new features.

The minor updated version of Apple Watch will come with a faster 16nm processor from TSMC. It will also be waterproof. In case of the high end model, which is said to be dubbed as Apple Watch 2, will sport GPS radio, barometer, as well as a higher capacity battery. However, it is disappointing that Apple will not make any design changes to the two new Apple Watch models. Kuo says Apple will change the form factor for Apple Watch only in 2018.

A report last week said that Apple Watch 2 will sport a thinner display as it will use One Glass Solution” (OGS) display technology instead of Glass on Glass (G/G) technology. Apple is expected to announce the next generation Apple Watch in September along with the new iPhone.
