Twitter to exclude photos and links from 140 character limit

Twitter is about to receive a major change on how it counts characters in a tweet. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the micro blogging site is planning to exclude photos and links from the 140 character limit.

Twitter is said to make this tweak within next two weeks. If the micro blogging site goes with the new change, it would give users the much needed flexibility in sharing information. As per the report, links inside a tweet currently take up 23 characters while a photo takes up 24 characters. By removing photos and links from the character limit, users will be able to add more content and post more than one photo in a tweet.

Earlier in March this year, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed that 140-character limit is here to stay. In August last year, Twitter increased the limit for Direct Messages from 140 characters to 10,000 characters. The company has been struggling to increase the user base and user engagement on its platform for some time. Twitter had 310 million users in Q1 2016.
