Google and Ford said to be in talks to build self-driving cars

Last week, it was reported that Google’s self driving car division will be a separate Alphabet company in 2016. Today a new report from Yahoo Autos is claiming that the company is in talks with Ford for a new self-driving car venture.

The duo is said to announce the partnership at the upcoming CES 2016. Google and Ford are building cars using former’s technology and the report describes the collaboration as “a huge step by both companies toward a new business of automated ride sharing.” The deal is not exclusive to Ford and this could mean that Google would be free to work with other automakers who are interested in its self-driving car technology, as per sources from the report.

Ford said earlier this month that it has plans to begin testing self-driving vehicles on public streets in California. The car maker has also scheduled a press conference scheduled at CES on January 5 where it might announce something related to the Google collaboration. Google has more than 50 autonomous test vehicles already on the road in California and Texas and collectively, these cars have logged in more than 1 million miles on roads around the US.
