Apple acquires artificial intelligence start-up Perceptio

Apple has scooped up an artificial intelligence start-up dubbed as Perceptio, according to a latest report from the Bloomberg. The startup focuses on developing technology that allows companies to run artificial intelligence systems on smartphones.

Perceptio’s technology enables phones to do advanced calculations without storing user data in the cloud. The start-up was founded by Nicolas Pinto and Zak Stone who are both established artificial intelligence researchers who specialize in creating image-recognition systems using deep learning. Perceptio had released Smoothie app last year using their AI skills and some advanced software algorithms. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but Apple spokesman Colin Johnson told Bloomberg that “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
