Facebook Messenger hits 500 million users

Facebook has announced that more than 500 million users are using its standalone Messenger each month. The social network removed the Messenger from main Facebook app in July and started urging users to download the Facebook Messenger app.

“Messaging is an important part of how people stay connected and since Messenger launched in 2011 we’ve been passionate about giving people a faster and more expressive way to communicate. Today more than 500 million people are using Messenger each month and we’re more committed than ever to make it the best possible messaging experience.”

posted Peter Martinazzi, Director of Product Management, Facebook on a blog.

Facebook has announced in April that Messenger had 200 million monthly active users that means more than 300 million users have increased in past seven months. Messenger’s 500 million users means the app is now competing with WhatsApp, which reached 600 million monthly active users in August.

Facebook Messenger has been receiving constant updates every two weeks and the company says that it will continue doing it. It supports stickers, voice call, group creation and so on.
