TRAI issues draft regulations on Quality of Service for mobile data services


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released draft regulations on Standards of Quality of Service for Mobile Data Services Regulations. There is no quality of service standards for the mobile data services compared to wired Internet such as broadband. TRAI has decided to benchmark the quality of service parameters for mobile data services such as 2G, 3G and the 4G LTE services based on BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) spectrum. Airtel offers Double data on GPRS packs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh


Airtel has doubled the data benefits on its GPRS packs for its pre-paid customers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. These packs range from Rs 12 to Rs 98 that would offer double data. Rs 149 will continue to offer 4GB of data including 2GB of night data (11 PM to 6AM) and 200 MB of Facebook data. Airtel offers manual GPRS settings for Non-OTA devices

Airtel has offered Manual Mobile Office Setting instructions for Non-OTA devices after they received complaints about problem in GPRS settings on certain devices. Since the automatic GPRS settings doesn’t work on some devices, these instructions would help the customers to set manual settings for the these devices. Nano SIM card coming soon !

While the whole mobile industry was taken surprise when the microSIM card made it’s way onto the Apple iPad and the iPhone 4. Fast forward 2011 , we have the world’s largest handset maker going with a microSIM slot in it’s latest smartphones including the Nokia ,N9, Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. Motorola used a similar SIM card slot in the DROID RAZR. Now a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has come up with the World’s first Nano SIM card which is significantly smaller than even a microSIM card.The main reason handset makers go with a microSIM card is to reduce the thickness of the device. Lufthansa FlyNet to offer In-flight WiFi along with GSM/GPRS connectivity

Lufthansa will be the first airline to offer in-flight internet access on intercontinental routes.The service will be offered under the banner FlyNet in partnership with Panasonic Avionics. FlyNet will be initially available only on select North Atlantic routes but they plan to offer it on the airline’s entire intercontinental network by end of 2011. Uninor finally launches GPRS Service on Prepaid

Uninor has finally launched GPRS Services on Prepaid in 8 circles UP (West), UP (East), Bihar, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The plans certainly look attractive. No unlimited plans but you can get 60MB for just Rs.9 while Rs.90 will get you 3GB of usage of 30 days. Samsung Pixon – 8MP & Touch – Lethal!

Touch phones are becoming the order of the day.

When until a few months ago, the touch technology was touted as the ‘next best thing’ with HTC leading the way, other Mobile manufacturers are following the trend with enhanced capabilities to make these handsets a “must want” on several lists.
