Vodafone India, Idea Cellular merger complete; Vodafone Idea Limited becomes country’s biggest telecom operator

After signing agreements back in March last year, Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Group’s telecom arm Idea Cellular have announced that the merger has been completed. Idea Cellular has been renamed as ‘Vodafone Idea Limited’ and the service provider has subscriber base of over 408 million (as of June 2018) with 1 RMS in 9 circles, broadband network of 340,000 sites, and widest distribution reach with 1.7 million retail outlets. Vodafone India partners with WhatsApp to promote the use of app in Indian languages

Vodafone India today announced that it has partnered with WhatsApp to promote and educate users to use the app in local India language. Vodafone said that it is one of the first operators to start such an initiative and aims to empower its consumers to connect with each other in a language of their preference. WhatsApp is available in more than 50 languages, including 10 Indian languages and has over 200 million monthly active users in India. Vodafone to invest Rs. 13,000 crore in India for ‘Digital India’, ‘Make in India’ and more

Vodafone today announced that it will invest Rs. 13,000 crores (£1.3 billion) for capacity augmentation and new business initiatives in India, including initiatives such as Digital IndiaMake in India and more. Vodafone India to roll out 4G services in Delhi, NCR by December 2015

Vodafone already announced that it will launch 4G services in India by December 2015. It also said that Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi circles will get 4G first. Today the operator has announced that it will roll out 4G services in Delhi/NCR region by December 2015. “Key corridors of Delhi/NCR will be part of the first wave of the 4G roll-out, which will be launched across the circle in a phased manner”, said Vodafone. Vodafone India to launch 4G services by December 2015

Vodafone India today announced that it will roll out 4G services in the country by December 2015. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi will be the first set of cities to get Vodafone 4G in the first wave of the roll-out by the end of the calendar year 2015. It has already started testing 4G services and has roped in technology infrastructure service providers for the network roll-out. Vodafone acquires 100% stake in Vodafone India

Vodafone has just announces that it has acquired 100% stake in its Indian subsidiary, Vodafone India Limited. It acquired indirect equity interests in VIL held by Analjit Singh and Neelu Analjit Singh in March, taking its stake to 89.03% of Vodafone India. Piramal Enterprises Limited has agreed to sell its 10.97% Vodafone India stake to Vodafone for Rs. 8,900 crores. Vodafone plans to increase its stake in the Indian unit


Vodafone in planning to buy out minority shareholders in its Indian arm for about US$2 billion, according to a recent report from the Financial Times. Vodafone owns about 64% of Vodafone India. Piramal Healthcare run by Billionaire industrialist Ajay Piramal has 11% stake and the remaining 25% stake is controlled by undisclosed minority shareholders. Vodafone India offers Rs. 4000 crore to retain 2G licenses in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata


Vodafone has offered to pay Rs. 4000 crore to the government to extend and continue its licenses in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, according to a recent report from PTI. Last month Vodafone announced that that they are taking all required actions, including legal against the Department of Telecom (DoT), regarding the 2G spectrum issue in these 3 metros.
