A peek into the Samsung Mobile Test Labs in Korea

We had a chance to take a tour of Samsung’s testing facilities at the company headquarters in Suwon, near Seoul, South Korea.  The HQ is called Samsung Digital City and it where most Samsung products are designed and tested. With respect to mobile phones, putting specs on a spec sheet is one thing and getting the product to work in the same way is another thing. We got a chance to see how Samsung’s mobile products are tested before they are shipped.

PUBG developer sues Epic Games’ Fortnite over copyright infringement in Korea

Korean game developer PUBG Corporation, which is also a subsidiary of Bluehole has announced that it is suing US-based Epic Games’ ‘Fortnite’ over copyright infringement in Korea. It also asked the court to determine whether Fortnite copied from the former’s “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” It filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court against Epic Games Korea. Samsung might have begun manufacturing Tizen powered Z3 in India

LG AKA range of smartphones rolling outside Korea

LG had launched its Aka line of smartphones in Korea last year in November. The smartphones that understands your moods is now rolling outside Korea.

The AKA line of smartphone is coming to Hong Kong first followed by  Taiwan, China, Singapore, Turkey, and “additional markets”. These smartphones chooses its emotion depending on how you use it and its features, such as alarm, apps, the kind of music that you load on it. There are available in four colors along with different personalities. With a global audience in mind, LG has tweaked the AKA lineup by adding an emotional UX element. Some of the additional features include customizable glasses and eyebrows for each pair of eyes.

“AKA is the first smartphone that gives owners a blank canvas to express their own personalities via a customized user experience. AKA is about being creative and never losing sight of the things that make us young and interesting. This is a whole new direction in smartphone UX and we’re excited about where it may take us.”

said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

The LG Aka sports a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels and are powered by quad-core 1.2 GHz processor. Other specs include 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable memory 8 MP rear camera with laser auto focus, 2 MP front-facing camera. The phones come with LTE, NFC, 2610 mAh battery. It weighs 135.5 grams without the front cover, and 157 grams with it on.

Samsung Galaxy Round with curved OLED display launched on SK Telecom in Korea

Just hours after we got our first glimpse of Samung’s upcoming curved glass display handset, the smartphone has been officially announced. Heading to SK Telecom in Korea, the phone will officially be called the Galaxy Round.

The phone is very slim at just 7.9mm and weighs 154 grams. The battery is now a bit smaller at 2800 mAh owing to the curvature and physical design. The phone runs Android 4.3 on a 2.3 Ghz quad core processor which we assume is the Snapdragon 800. This is paired with 3GB of RAM and you’ll also find a 13MP camera at the back of the phone. The tech specs are a play on those of the Galaxy Note 3. The highlight of the phone of course is the curved glass 5.7 inch panel with Full HD resolution. 5 million HTC One phones sold since launch

There is a lot of negativity surrounding the Taiwanese phone maker HTC recently due to some high profile departures from the company including Chief Product Officer Kouji Kodera and Asia CEO Lennard Hoornik. But the company has managed to sell 5 million units of the its flagship HTC One smartphone since launch according to a report by the WSJ. HTC’s main Android rival Samsung just announced today that it had sold over 10 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone in record time. The HTC One hit many markets before the Galaxy S4 but HTC is still struggling with the global roll out. India was supposed to get the phone in end of April but it is finally going on sale only this month end. HTC was also involved in some legal trouble with respect to the HDR microphone on the device. Samsung fined by FTC for obstructing an investigation

Samsung was recently involved in a mobile phone price fixing case along with many other manufacturers like LG, etc. The Korean Fair Trade Commission (FTC) was investigating Samsung on this case and Samsung got fined 400 million for obstruction.

Samsung Galaxy M Style Android smartphone launched in Korea

Samsung has launched the Galaxy M Style, new entry-level Android smartphone in Korea. It comes with 4-inch ( 640 × 480 pixels) capacitive super AMOLED touch screen display. It is powered by 1GHz single core processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It is just 9.9 mm thick with metal body and comes with a 3MP camera with secondary camera and 4GB internal memory with expandable memory up to 32GB. LG Optimus LTE with 4.5 inch HD IPS display announced in Korea
