ASUS unveils ZenFone 2 – features 64 bit Intel processor and 4GB of RAM


ASUS has taken wraps of its latest ZenFone 2 smartphone at its dedicated CES 2015 event in Las Vegas. The company’s chairman also announced that they are now shipping over 1.5 million ZenFone smartphones a month.

ASUS ZenFone 2 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and comes with a 72% screen-to-body ration, which means that the display occupies more space in the body rather the bezels. It has a layer of Gorilla Glass 3, which protects the smartphone from scratches and minor sniffs.

Under the hood, there’s a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor powering the smartphone and ASUS says that it is up to 3.1 times faster than some of the quad-core competitors. The GPU performance is also claimed to be 8.1 times quicker and it does support OpenGL 3.0.

The spotlight, however, is on the random access memory of the smartphone, which is about 4GB -making it the first smartphone to feature such a configuration.

There’s a 13 megapixel rear camera and it is equipped with the PixelMaster technology, which according the company allows you to take better low light photographs that are up to 400% brighter than what the previous generation was capable of capturing. The 5 megapixel front facing shooter completes the camera department.

ASUS ZenFone 2 also comes with the home-backed Creative Studio, which now includes mini-movie for quickly recording and sharing movies among your friends on social networks.

ASUS is making some big promises with its Zen user interface. The company says there will be zero-lag input touch experience and the UI will run smoother than ever before. Talking about the Zen UI, it is now based on the newest version of Android – 5.0 Lollipop. ASUS is introducing ‘Zen motion’ which is essentially the gestures that can be used for accessing various applications.

The Zen UI also comes with another useful feature called SnapView that allows you to separate work and personal accounts. You can keep secure areas for apps, photos and files.

ASUS ZenFone 2 also features a Kids Mode that gives parents control over the applications installed in the phone. Futhermore, you can control the incoming calls and also the time when your kids can actually use the smartphone.

The 3,000mAh battery provides juice for the smartphone and it is equipped with fast charging technology, which according the company recharges up to 60% in about 39 minutes.

ASUS ZenFone 2 will be available in Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White color options. The smartphone will be up for grabs in March and will cost you about $199.
