Symbian

The Nokia 6630 is one of the first handsets on the market to use the Symbian 8.0a. So, all the applications that worked on your 7610, may not work on the 6630. The Nokia 6630 user interface does lag a bit. But if you have used any of the previous Nokia Smartphones then you will feel at home while using the phone. The 6630 UI is consistent and very predictable. You can arrange the icons and folders to the way you want it to be. You can create new folders but you cannot create a folder inside a folder. The GoTo app is still restricted. You cannot create shortcuts to all the application and games that are installed on the phone. (Although you can use 3rd Party applications to create shortcuts to any applications and games e.g. AppMan)

The phonebook application is brilliant. You can store anything you would ever wish to. There are 51 options for each contact which consists of Name, address, telephone number (home, office etc). mobile no, pin code, e-mail address, website, notes etc (Nokia 6630 has 10 MB of shared memory). The profile system is good. You can create new profiles, but the profiles cannot be timed. The offline mode or the flight mode blocks the network signal and you can use the phone for playing games etc on the flight.

The phone comes with some pre-installed applications like IM (Instant messenger) which didnt work out for me. I faced a lot of problems using this app. The phone restarted twice. The phone also came with Setting Wizard app. This app worked perfectly for me. I could set up my GPRS and MMS settings with ease. The other apps that came with the phone are Print Kodak (to print pictures from your phone to your Kodak printer), Install Keyboard (to install the bluetooth keyboard)

There are some problems with my firmware, which have been solved by the latest firmware. The major problem, is the Missed call and New message icon in the screen saver. I find it difficult when i am in my classes to unlock once every few mins to check if there is a missed call or message. One more problem is the light time-out. If i set the light timeout to say 5 seconds the backlight doesnt turn off. The light goes off only after 35 seconds which is the default time for the backlight to turn off. The last problem i faced is to change the Color pallete in the themes. The default color is blue, so say i change the color to red, it doesnt change to red it remains blue. My firmware version is V 2.39.15.

Note :- The latest firmware has solved almost all the bugs listed above.
