Say Cheese

Now let?s focus on the Camera. The camera of the 6630 phone is really very good. The photo quality is better than the Nokia 7610 and 6670 camera phones, which were the best Nokia camera phones until the Nokia 6630 hit the market.

Nokia's first 3G phone also comes with a 1.3 Mega pixel Camera (image size 1280 x 960 pixels) with video recording capacity of 1 Hour! The 6630 camera is equipped with 1.33 MP sensor. The effective picture resolution is a bit lower than 1.23 Mega Pixel, the highest picture resolution is 1280 x 960 pixels. There is sequence mode, which means you can take 6 photos at one shot.

You can set the image quality to either High, normal or basic. There is not a lot of difference in quality between the highest and the lowest quality pictures. There are 2 Image capture resolutions 640 X 480 and 1280 X 960. You can adjust the brightness and the contrast. The picture quality while

Image Sizes taken in both resolutions supported:-

1280 X 960 (HIGH) - 445 kB
1280 X 960 (MEDIUM) - 287 kB
1280 X 960 (BASIC) - 97 kB

640 X 480 (HIGH) - 120 kB
640 X 480 (MEDIUM) - 56 kB
640 X 480 (BASIC) - 19 kB

The image quality is very good, comparable to the lower-end Digital Cameras. The pictures taken in night mode are not so good though. Image Saturation, Sharpness, accuracy and focus are all good. The phone does not offer a possibility of setting white color balance. Therefore if the automatic color balance doesn't handle the artificial light properly then it might be a problem. Coming to the digital zoom, Nokia has improved zooming in the 6630. 6x Digital zoom is very smooth! The pictures taken in Night mode are just about okay. Sequential shooting allows you to take 6 shots in 4 to 5 seconds. All of them are displayed beside one another and you can select the best picture and delete the rest. You can also set the self-timer at 10, 20 or 30 seconds. The phone is progressively ticking, speeds up the frequency for the last three seconds and then captures. There is no lens cover to protect the lens of the camera. There is also a slight lag after you capture the photo which is quite annoying but the lag is not as much as the previous Nokia models.

You can use the camera for Video Recording too. You can shoot in 2 formats 128 X 96 and 176 X 144. You can shoot as long as 1 hour. But there is no improvement in the quality of the Video Clips, sad but true! You can record videos in 3GP format. There is a mute feature, by which you can shoot a silent video clip. This will reduce the file size.

File Size of Videos in both resolutions supported (All clips are of 1 min duration):-

(With Sound)
176 X 144 1035 kB
128 X 96 609 kB

(Without Sound)
176 X 144 956 kB
128 X 96 541 kB

So you save about 80 kb every min if you shoot in Mute mode!

The Nokia 6630 has Hot swappable Memory card slot which is located to the right of the keypad The phone makes use of The Dual Voltage Reduced Size MultiMedia Card, in short DV RS-MMC. It makes use of a 1.8 Volt RS-MMC Card, which is not compatible with other Nokia phones, it is not even compatible with Nokia 7610 which uses a 3.0 volt RS-MMC Card. DV-RS-MMC (which the 6630 makes use of) is compatible with 7610. This i consider is a major setback (drawback) considering the fact that higher capacity Dual Voltage cards cost a fortune. All of this means a 7610 owner who wants to upgrade to 6630 will have to shell out those extra bucks to buy a higher capacity card.
