Camera and Video Recording

The 1.3 MP cam

Now to the camera, the maximum resolution of the camera is 1280x1024 pixels. The Camera is not the best in the market today. It doesn?t even match some of the other Mega Pixel Cameras. The quality of the photos taken by the 6230i is well below average compared to the 1.3 Mega pixel camera of the Nokia 6630. The pictures when viewed on the phone look good but when viewed on my PC the pictures looked distorted and were just below average. The Color balance wasn?t perfect either. A picture is worth a thousand words, so just have a look at the difference between a picture taken with the 6230i and a 6630, you will see the difference. The pictures taken in Night mode makes a lot of noise and the pictures look even worse.

Nokia 6230i being the first Series 40 phone from Nokia to have a Mega Pixel camera and also being the top-end phone in the series, a much better camera was what we expected. The Camera is a terrible let down specially for people who are planning to upgrade from the 6230 to the 6230i.

Video Recording

As in all the other Nokia phones, video is recorded in 3GPP format with a resolution of 176 X 144 pixels. The phone can record videos of 1 hour duration. There is also a Mute function, which will turn the microphone off so that you can record videos without sound. I like this feature as it reduces the file size by around 10% and there are many instances when I do not need sound in my videos. The video quality is not impressive.
