While the whole mobile industry was taken surprise when the microSIM card made it's way onto the Apple iPad and the iPhone 4. Fast forward 2011 , we have the world's largest handset maker going with a microSIM slot in it's latest smartphones including the Nokia ,N9, Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. Motorola used a similar SIM card slot in the DROID RAZR. Now a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has come up with the World's first Nano SIM card which is significantly smaller than even a microSIM card. The main reason handset makers go with a microSIM card is to reduce the thickness of the device. With a Nano SIM card , they are only going to get even more thinner rather anorexic !
The nano SIM card measures only 12mmx9mm compared to a microSIM which measures 15mmx12mm making it 30% smaller. In comparison with normal full size SIM cards , its 60% smaller. The folks behind this crazy idea have not just reduced the size but also managed to shave away a few micrometres of the thickness. Its 15% thinner.
The company will be showcasing the nano-SIM at the CARTES & IDentification 2011 trade show from November 15 to 17.If ...

Tata Teleservices which is the telecom unit of the Tata Group will merge both the CDMA and GSM divisions. It is also said to cut jobs by the end of this year based on non-performance, and the CDMA employees will be the one to be affected the most.
This will combine all the CDMA and GSM services in all the circles under 4 four regions that include West & Upper North, East & UP, South and Delhi & Rajasthan. These 4 regions will have 15 mobility business units by combining the circles.
The CDMA services are provided under Tata Indicom and the GSM services are provided by both Tata Indicom and Tata Docomo. Tata Indicom has 93 million subscribers in India with less than 50% of active GSM and CDMA connections.
This company reported a net loss of Rs.119.32 crore in Q2 2011 recently, and this move is to improved the cost efficiency.

I graduated in Electronics and Communications and Finnish names are pretty common in any work in the wireless communication space. Nokia's contribution to this space is pretty huge and the latest proof is Apple agreeing to become a licensee of Nokia. Now if you are a fan of technology , the first GSM call on a commercial network was made 20 years ago between Finland's Prime Minister Harri Holkeri and Kaarina Suonio, vice mayor of the Finnish city of Tampere . The network was built by Telenokia and Siemens now known as Nokia Siemens Networks – for the Finnish operator Radiolinja, now known as Elisa.

There are number of Android devices available in the market, but a very few of them are good enough to drop your jaw. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is one of them which I think is currently the most beautiful device available (read our preview). It was announced by SE at CES and it’s a successor to the Xperia X10, which is also a good looking device. A lot of people in USA are dying to get their hands on this sexy device, and one of them can’t wait and asked about it on SE Product blog. In answer, SE guy said that:
I just got something from my US colleagues and the current plan is to have an “a”-variant available at retailers this summer. This version will be optimized for use in the US (GSM/UMTS). I’ll keep you posted as I get more details.
So it’s coming this summer, right? It will be available on retailers (looks like BestBuy to me) and maybe on mobile carriers. As it’s coming in a GSM version, the device might hit AT&T or T-Mobile. My guess is that it will hit AT&T, as they are already offering the predecessor of the device Xperia X10.
So Arc fans ...

We decided to compare the 3G Tariffs from Airtel , BSNL and Tata Docomo in the Bangalore, Karnataka Circle. This circle was chosen because it is the only circle maximum Operators are offering 3G as of today.
Reliance was not included because it has launched 3G in this circle. This comparison only takes into account the Prepaid tariffs and our main focus is on the Data Usage charges. We have included Video Calling charges too. We have omitted the basic cost such as the SIM procurement charges.
While we have paid lot of attention to the numbers in this comparison , feel free to let us know in case you find any mistake.
Base Data charges without any Packs( Pay as You Go )
BSNL is the most affordable with charges of 1paise per 10 Kb while Airtel charges 30p per 20 Kb.
So it works out to Rs.1 per MB on BSNL, Rs.15 per MB on Airtel and Rs.10 per MB on Tata Docomo.
Minimum Plan Charges
While both Airtel and BSNL require only basic validity and talktime , Tata Docomo requires that you choose Rs.350 plan with free talktime before subscribing to Data Packs.
Unlimited Data
BSNL offers unlimited Data at Rs.1499 per month. You can get it ...

Lufthansa will be the first airline to offer in-flight internet access on intercontinental routes. The service will be offered under the banner FlyNet in partnership with Panasonic Avionics. FlyNet will be initially available only on select North Atlantic routes but they plan to offer it on the airline's entire intercontinental network by end of 2011.All you need is a WiFi enabled device be it a laptop , iPad , iPhone , iPod , Blackberry or any Smartphone and you can browse the web in the middle of a boring and tiring flight.
The service is expected to offer Download speeds upto 5 Mbps and upload speeds upto 1Mbps . GSM services such as SMS and GPRS will be available soon and you can send text messages or your phone's data plan inside the flight.
This is how the service works according to an illustration on the company's website.
The service will be initially available on Airbus A330 Aircrafts and will be soon available on the Boeing 747 and Airbus 340. And the best part is that the service is not restricted to business class but available to all passengers who are willing to pay.The price would be around 11 euros for 1 hr access ...

Our friends over at AndroidSPIN got their hands on a lot of images of the Droid 2, which is showing us the beauty of the Droid Global Edition. The Droid GE comes with white back, and it's rumored that the phone will come in other colors too like blue and black. We also heard that the phone is running a 1.2 GHz processor, which is a little higher than the one in Droid 2. Head over to AndroidSPIN if you want to see all the images.
Recently we saw the first screenshot of the Verizon 4G LTE sim card, and when we say it, we start thinking that a new Verizon branded device is in progress, and I think Verizon has chosen HTC for it.
Folks over at AndroidGuys got their hands on a phone which is manufactured by HTC, and got a Verizon branding on it. And the interesting thing is that its a world phone, which means that it will run on both CDMA and GSM.AndroidGuys is saying that Verizon will be launching this smartphone in early 2011. Still it's not confirm that is this the first Verizon 4G LTE device, but if it is a world phone as AndroidGuys said, then may be it is.
The phone features a 4" Inch screen, with a four row physical QWERTY keyboard, and it is probably running on a 1.2 GHz processor. And if the device is coming out in 2o11, then it will be running Android 2.2 for sure, or may be Android 2.3.
In the image above, you can see that the phone is compared with the EVO 4G, and it's almost equal to EVO 4G in size. Folks stay tuned with us, we'll hear some ...

The beauty of having a lot of spectrum is we have a lot of flexibility." That means that Sprint is also considering on LTE, not only on 4G (WiMax). There is no doubt in it that LTE is more faster than WiMax. Sprint WiMax partner, Clearwire also said that LTE is a possibility in the future. The competitors of Sprint, known as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are working on LTE Technology too. Dan Hesse also said that a merge with T-Mobile was "logical" if both companies build out LTE networks, but he didn't gave any further information on it, may be both companies are talking to each other behind the scenes. Back in 2008, Sprint tried to merge with T-Mobile, but they rejected it because both companies are on running on different network (Sprint is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM).
Reliance Communications Monday announced the launch of its GSM mobile services in Punjab, becoming the first telecom operator in the circle to have both GSM and CDMA services for mobile users.
"The service will cover 460 towns, 11,741 villages and a number of national, state and other highways, tourist and religious places throughout the state," Reliance regional hub head Arvind Kumar told reporters at the launch.
The Punjab circle GSM market is dominated by telecom majors Airtel and Idea (till recently Spice) and the entry of Reliance is likely to make the competition even more keen.
Offering a Reliance GSM prepaid SIM card for a one-time charge of just Rs.25, Reliance officials said the inaugural offer to subscribers would provide 100 percent savings to the sub-Rs.300 users.
"The difference we are offering over earlier service providers is the superior quality of service which customers will acknowledge through the customer experience programme," Kumar said.
The plan offers talk time worth Rs.900 on local calls and SMS to any network. Each subscriber will be given free talk time worth Rs.10 everyday for 90 days, Kumar said.
Reliance claimed that it had set up adequate number of towers across Punjab to provide high quality, congestion-free and zero call drop ...

Unveiling the plans, Videocon Chairman Venugopal Dhoot said that GSM services would be first launched in Chennai on August 15, to be followed by other metros, Kerala and North India.
"The national rollout plan will be completed in 18 months," Dhoot added. Datacom intends to build up a subscriber base of around 10 million in three-four years of launch.
Datacom had obtained licences for providing GSM services in 22 circles across the country.
Dhoot said telecommunications would be a focus area for Videocon Group in the coming years and the group would invest around Rs 6,000 crore in this business.
The group was also in talks with some companies based in the Middle-East to rope in a foreign partner for the telecom business.
He said that while the group had a strong cash balance, the foreign partner is also expected to bring in equity in the telecom venture.

Adroit Claretdene Infotech announced the launch of a new mobile email solution - email@mobile on Monday with which worldwide mobile users can own a free mobile email ID which shall be accessed over any ordinary mobile phone capable of internet browsing.
Users can now use their existing mobile phone with WAP 1.2 and above browser to wirelessly access their new e-mail box as well as register for new email ID through their basic mobile phone.
email@mobile is built on the idea that users should neither have to rush to their computer nor buy an expensive mobile phone just for accessing their emails. Users can read text/ attachments, reply or compose new email, delete or send email, set up address book and avail other features what a web-mail program offers - from a basic mobile handset.
Users neither have to buy any smartphone/PDA nor install any software on the mobile phone. All that is required is a mobile phone capable of Internet browsing.
