Apple renames mixed-reality software ‘xrOS’ ahead of it’s upcoming AR/VR headset

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in his most recent article reports that Apple will use the name “xrOS” for the operating system that will power its upcoming mixed reality AR/VR headset instead of “RealityOS” or “rOS,” which was the original plan for the platform. Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform with AI and 5G for Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality devices announced

Qualcomm announced the worlds first 5G-supported extended reality (XR) platform called the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Platform. It boasts multiple new technologies that Qualcomm claims to give the newer platform 2x the CPU and GPU performance, 4x more video bandwidth, 6x higher resolution and 11x AI improvement over the precious XR platform.

Global VR headset shipments decline 33.7%, standalone VR headsets grew 417.7% YoY in Q2 2018: IDC

As per the recent report from IDC, the shipments of virtual reality (VR) headsets were down 33.7% year over year in the second quarter of 2018. Oculus and Xiaomi partner for Oculus Go and Mi VR Standalone VR headsets

Xiaomi and Oculus at the CES 2018 announced that they are working on two standalone VR headsets – Oculus Go and Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone that will be built by Xiaomi and will be powered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Mobile VR Platform. These don’t require cable, external sensors, or a mobile phone.
